How this was worked out

  • Rp 150.000 for 250 g at 15 g per brew gives 16.7 cups, or Rp 9.000 of coffee per cup.
  • 2 brews a day on 7 days a week is 61 cups a month (52 weeks and 12 months a year).
  • Saving per cup is the bought drink (Rp 30.000) minus your cost (Rp 9.000): Rp 21.000.

This is a simple estimate from the numbers you enter. It leaves out water, electricity, wasted coffee, your time and the pleasure of a cafe visit, and prices change. Use it as a rough guide, not financial advice.

Dose drives the price

The same bag costs less per cup with a smaller dose. A scale lets you keep every brew at the dose you planned instead of guessing.

Compare like with like

Use the price of a drink similar to what you brew, such as a filter coffee or a flat white, and add extras like milk in the extras field.

Equipment pays back slowly

A grinder or brewer is a one-off cost. The calculator divides it by your monthly saving, and tells you when it never pays back.

How the numbers are worked out

Every figure comes from the numbers you enter, plus one fixed assumption about the calendar. Nothing is estimated from outside data, so change any field and the results follow.

  1. Cups per bag

    bag weight ÷ dose

  2. Cost per cup

bag price ÷ cups per bag + extras per cup

  3. Days a bag lasts

cups per bag ÷ brews per day × 7 ÷ days per week

  4. Cups per month

    brews per day × days per week × 52 ÷ 12

  5. Monthly saving

(drink price − cost per cup) × cups per month

  6. Equipment payback

equipment cost ÷ monthly saving, rounded up to whole months

  • Yearly saving is the monthly saving times 12.
  • If home brewing costs the same as or more than the drink, the payback is shown as "Never" and the saving is negative.
  • Rupiah amounts are shown as whole numbers. US dollars and euros show cents.
  • The calculator leaves out water, power, wasted coffee and your time.
