How to read the result

A ratio is a starting point, not a rule for taste.

A 1:16 ratio means every gram of coffee uses 16 grams of water. For example, 20 grams of coffee uses 320 grams of water.

A lower ratio number generally makes a stronger brew, while a higher number makes it lighter. Grind size, temperature, time, pouring technique, and the coffee itself still shape the final cup.

1:14–15

Stronger

A starting point for more body and concentration.

1:16

Balanced

A popular starting point for many filter brews.

1:17–18

Lighter

Uses more water for the same coffee dose.
